ABOUT BEARDS FOR BOOBS

Shave a Beard, Save A Boob
Beards for Boobs is a charity event held annually at Buskers Irish Pub and Restaurant in Newport, RI
for the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.

Participants usually begin to grow their beards (and sometimes hair, too) around the time of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, and volunteer to have them shaved in exchange for donations, with more money for more hair. So bring some friends, have some drinks, and let your pals go to town on your face with some clippers.

Spread the Word and Contribute
Besides growing and shaving a beard, there are a variety of additional ways you can get involved. These include displaying flyers at your place of business, sharing information about the event with friends via Facebook, Twitter, Pintrest, and other social media sites, as well as contributing to/bidding on silent auction and raffle items

The Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation
All proceeds from the Beards for Boobs event are donated the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation's Hope Bus, a Mobile Wellness and Resource Center in a recreational vehicle (RV). The Hope Bus is the backbone of the Foundation's community outreach program. It delivers programs, services and resources across Rhode Island and into Massachusetts. Its primary mission is to raise breast health awareness, encourage threefold screening (breast self-exam, annual clinical exam and annual mammograms) and provide educational resources about breast cancer.

A special effort is made to bring the Hope Bus to low income neighborhoods and minority communities where there is greater need for breast health education and wellness services.
